This series was created for a university assignment. After choosing one of several given lists of books, we were asked to make a series of book covers which were both identifiable as a series and communicated the genre and content of the book.
I chose to do Ian Rankin's Edinburgh-based 'Inspector Rebus' series. While other people see Edinburgh as a beautiful, historic city, Rebus sees only crime and corruption. My idea was to make the viewer see through Rebus' eyes - literally. Unfortunately my lack of printer and crappy monitor meant these didn't come out as well as I had hoped in print, but I still like the idea.
I had a rule while I was doing this assignment - if I didn't feel uncomfortable while taking the photo then it wasn't going to work as a cover. Needless to say there are a few stories behind this particular assignment.
